Franchise (Universal Adult Franchise )

1)Franchise is the people right  to vote & elect their representatives.  

2)Universal Adult franchise means that right to vote should be given to all citizens without discrimination of caste, Gender , Colour & religious  etc. 

3)In 1895 First draft of our Indian Constitution had demanded right to Vote for every citizen which then reaffirmed by Motilal Nehru Report in 1928. 
4)Resolution 1931 Karachi session of INC adopted a Resolution on Fundamental rights & economic policy with encapsulated the notion of Universal Adult Franchise. 
5)India adopted the principle of Universal Adult  Franchise  parallel with enactment of Constitution in 1949 & then its implementation on 26 th Jan. 1950
6) Elections in india are based on Universal Adult Franchise.It's  ECI that prepare list of voters for State-central assemblies 
7) Art 326 - Elections of House of people & to the legislative assemblies of states to be  on basis of Adult suffrage .
8) The voting age in India is 18 years . It was originally 21 years but was reduced to 18 years by 61 Ist Amendment Act , 1989.

9) International Women suffrage Alliance (1904 in Berlin , Germany) founded for Right to vote for Women.
